Rachel & Daniel Efune

On October 7th the Jewish People, particularly those residing in Southern Israel, were the victims of a terrorist attack that the Jewish People have not experienced since the Holocaust. In watching the news there was a family that affected both Rachel and myself particularly deeply – The Bibas family. In seeing their son’s photo on the news we realized that Ariel Bibas, about our son’s age had recently had a haircut – for some reason this brought the terror attack too close to home after we realized this could have been our children.

As many of you may know our son, Ari Efune, will be turning three this week. When Ari was born Rachel and I decided we would not cut his hair until he was three – a tradition observed by many Jews, including Ariel Bibas.

In conjunction with our son’s Upsheren on January 15th, 2024 we’ve set out a goal to raise $50,000 to donate a playroom at the Eshkol Resilience Center in Southern Israel. We would greatly appreciate any support from you!

Over the coming years the children residing in southern Israel will continue to deal with not only the trauma of October 7th but the fear that it could happen again. When I’ve been in Israel I’ve been fortunate enough to see some of the trauma centers that are available for kids to help them get through these traumas. Rachel and I would like to invite you all to donate alongside us in dedicating a playroom at the Eshkol Resilience Center in southern Israel. While these children are going through experiences that we could likely never understand we feel it’s important for them to be able to play and have fun like our own kids are able to in America.

About JNF:
Jewish National Fund is on the ground with communities in the south devastated by the attacks, ensuring immediate needs are met and future requirements are fulfilled. JNF has worked closely with these southern communities for decades. They know them better than anyone else, and will be there when they start to rebuild their lives in the future. I am supporting JNF-USA's Eshkol Resilience Center and raising $50,000 for a Children's Play Area.

To ease the stress caused by PTSD, Jewish National Fund-USA invests in resilience centers to provide emotional therapy. Therapy includes traditional one-on-one sessions, group therapy, and family counseling, as well as art, drama, pet, and movement therapy. The Eshkol Resilience Center will be over 4,200 square feet of fortified space, with a surrounding garden adjacent to the current Therapy Institute and Therapeutic Gardens. The center is crucial to healing a generation of Israelis who believe that the threat of war is a constant way of life.

This Resilience Center, one of several, is located in the heart of the Eshkol Regional Council, a territory adjacent to the Gaza Strip, and is usually referred to as “the Gaza Envelope.” Along with the neighboring Sha’ar Hanegev region, the area is home to 70,000 residents, most of whom have been evacuated due to the recent attacks.

The employees of the Resilience Center are still hard at work. Providing therapy and counseling for children and families that are displaced by the war. The community longs to return to their homes in Eshkol and JNF-USA will be there the moment they are able to return.

Am Yisrael Chai.
