Israel has always had a special place in my heart. As a proud member of the Global Jewish community, I understand the importance of the State of Israel and its people. Through my years attending Hillel Community Day School, Camp Ramah in Canada, and my Zionistic upbringing, Israel has always had special meaning to me. Jewish National Fund-USA has been a staple organization throughout Israel's history, helping to build, support and care for the land and people of Israel. Before October 7th, my intention was to help raise money to paint bomb shelters to make them less scary for children. Many of the bomb shelters in Israel are covered with artwork and comforts of home. I felt supporting this project would be a way to help children in Israel deal with their unfortunate reality of needing these shelters.
However, in the aftermath of the October 7th attacks I recognize that the needs of Israel have changed, and they need our help now more than ever. My mitzvah project is still aimed at helping the Israeli people with their safety and security needs; however, the focus is much broader now than it was before. Jewish National Fund-USA has worked in close partnership for decades with all the communities on the Gaza border and is uniquely prepared to assist in meeting the emergency needs created by the current crisis and the real, long-term needs of tomorrow.
In honor of my bar mitzvah, please join me in supporting the land and people of Israel during these challenging times. I am raising funds to support JNF-USA's Israel Resilience Campaign to fund the following:
EVACUEES FROM THE GAZA ENVELOPE AND THE NORTHERN BORDER
Tens of thousands of people remain evacuated from their homes. Donations made to Jewish National Fund-USA go directly to help with housing, food, clothing, education, and their everyday needs.
TRAUMA THERAPY
The unprecedented need for therapy to manage children’s and adult’s trauma is unprecedented and will remain for years. Survivors from some of the kibbutzim have been called “dead people walking.” Your dollars support one-on-one therapy, group sessions, animal-assisted therapy, and the numerous resilience centers that Jewish National Fund-USA has built and supported throughout Israel for years.
FIREFIGHTING AND PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
JNF-USA provides firefighting and protective equipment for civil defense – the first responders to community emergencies — including radios, bulletproof vests, helmets, tactical clothing, fire trucks, rapid response vehicles, and more.
FOOD SECURITY
Israel’s food security is at risk as farmers from all over the country have been called up as reservists, and many foreign workers have left the country. JNF-USA volunteers are working the fields, ensuring that food production continues.
RESPITE ACTIVITIES
Children displaced from their homes and traumatized by terror are receiving respite activities in their temporary communities.
THE ELDERLY AND INFIRM
33,600 volunteers working across the country are checking on the elderly, infirm, and those unable to evacuate.
SUPPORTING IDF SOLDIERS
Care packages, food, hot cooked meals, warm clothing, and moral support are regularly delivered to IDF soldiers on the front lines, as well as support for the Nefesh B'Nefesh fund for the families of Lone Soldiers.
MISSING FAMILIES FORUM
Support for the Hostage and Missing Families Forum, a non-profit created by the families of those kidnapped on October 7, continues.
LIFE SAVING TRAUMA FACILITIES
JNF-USA opened a life-saving Trauma Ward at the ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran Kaylie Rehabilitation Medical Center, the only rehabilitation hospital in the south of Israel. With over 4,000 wounded soldiers and civilians in need of care, this ward will provide essential medical attention.
HOPE FOR THE FUTURE
JNF-USA promises to rebuild communities devastated by the attacks and the ongoing war. Livnot B'Yachad (Build Together) plan is a promise to keep the spirits and hopes of the people who live there strong, and to make a tangible difference for the future.
This attack has decimated many communities, but they will never destroy our spirit. We stand together, as one Jewish community, ready to help Israelis in this difficult time.
