Nationwide Call to Action – Bake Against Hate on January 16th to January 28th
#BakeAgainstHate
ATTENTION ALL JEWISH COMMUNITY LEADERS
From January 16th to January 28th, 2024, we are inviting college and high school students to join us in 'Baking Against Hate’ by organizing local bake sales at student unions, synagogues, or any other public space.
The vile, rising tide of antisemitism felt in our communities, on college campuses, and online is something we will not tolerate. Young Americans have unfortunately been the most susceptible to hateful rhetoric on campuses, so it is our responsibility to take a stand.
On Sunday October 22nd, the Jewish student leaders in Montgomery County, MD came together to combat hatred and violence in their local community by hosting a bake sale. Not only did their effort raise $5,000, but it also saw the attendance of numerous community leaders including religious leaders, politicians, school board members, superintendents, teachers, and many more.
Because of the success of this event, we are asking for your help. We encourage you to be creative and add your own twist to the event. For those who need guidance on getting started, we have provided a packet of bake sale tips that have proved to be effective for the bake sale that was hosted in Montgomery County, MD.
As the next generation of leaders, we hope that you will join us in this effort. An event so simple and easy to plan has the ability to bring communities together. This is why we are calling on all Hillel organizations, Jewish Student Unions, and Jewish Community Centers to join us in ‘baking against hate.’ Although we aren’t in Israel, as American students we all have the ability to make a difference.
All funds raised will be contributed to the refugee campaign of The Jewish National Fund (JNF) which provides critical support to evacuated families in the south of Israel, provides psychological assistance to traumatized children, and supplies essential medical equipment to injured civilians. We ask that you use the following fundraising link for your event in January.
Thank you for your support and we can’t wait to see your leadership next month!
