Jess Drabkin

David Garfinkel, of Glen Head, New York, August 11, 1923 to April 15, 2015. David is survived by his loving wife Gina, his daughter Eva Drabkin and husband Jess Drabkin, and grandchildren Michael, Hilary and Brooke, and by son James Garfinkel and wife Naomi Garfinkel and granddaughter Maya. David and Gina had a 60-year marriage and a 61-year love affair. David was from Sosnowitz, Poland, the son of Yakov and Chava Garfinkel. They were devout Radomsky Chassidim. David was the youngest and the last surviving child of nine brothers and sisters, six of whom perished in the Nazi death camps. He spent World War II in Nazi slave labor camps and death camps, including Markstadt, Auschwitz, Buna, Dora and Bergen Belsen. To us, David was a superhero, an indomitable spirit and a fighter who survived not only the camps, but 4 different types of cancer, and for the last five years a heart valve that barely functioned. Had you met him, you never would have known he had a bad day in his life. Everything was always "perfect." He loved life. He was a generous and selfless man who was devoted to his family, and who loved being surrounded by his friends. David was a rock on which you could always depend. He knew his values and he knew himself, and he never wavered from what he believed. Our hearts are broken. A great light has gone out of this world.

Please help me support Jewish National Fund by making a contribution to my fundraiser and sharing this page with your family and friends. Every dollar I raise will help the memory of my loved one live on and help to support the land and people of Israel. The donations and Tzedakah I raise for my loved one are so meaningful to me.
