In loving memory of Lois Kay - journalist, teacher, professor. mentor, friend, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Graduate of the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, the College of Communications at Boston University, and other graduate programs, the former newspaper reporter taught English and journalism in Montgomery County Schools, where she was awarded a gold key for excellence by Columbia Scholastic Press Association. The Newspaper Fund also recognized her "for outstanding contributions to journalism education at the local, state and national level." The newspapers she advised at Montgomery Blair and Winston Churchill High Schools were also recognized nationally. Former students praised her "enormous dedication" and called her "mentor, friend, teacher, and expert". Her expertise in scholastic journalism brought her to the University of Maryland (College Park) where she was named director of the Maryland Scholastic Press Advisers Association. As a faculty member, she also headed the College of Journalism's Career Development Office. Throughout her life, she was an avid world traveler, tennis player, and bridge player. After retiring from the University of Maryland, she became an active docent at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, and was the facilitator for several book groups in the Washington, DC area. Mrs. Kay is survived by her sister Ruth Krandel of San Jose, CA; her three children, Doug Kay (Nancy Kay) of Potomac, MD, Karen Kay of Aldie, VA, and Randall Kay (Marjorie Meyer) of Burlington, VT; by her grandchildren, Julia Kay Preis (Ido Preis), Eric Kay, Sarah Kay, and Hannah Kay; and one great-grandchild Jacob Preis. Robert, her beloved husband of 60 years, predeceased her.

Please help me support Jewish National Fund by making a contribution to my fundraiser and sharing this page with your family and friends. Every dollar I raise will help the memory of my loved one live on and help to support the land and people of Israel. The donations and Tzedakah I raise for my loved one are so meaningful to me.
