Buckets for Duckets

Samuel Lipke

Samuel Lipke

Hello,

My name is Samuel Lipke. I am an 8th grader at Portland Jewish Academy, in Oregon. At PJA, we spend many hours learning indoors, and we all look forward to outdoor recess. I am writing to let you know about my 8th-grade service learning project for the school to raise money for the Jewish National Fund's Indoor Playground in Sderot, Israel.

Sderot is a town in Israel located next to the Gaza strip. Routinely, rockets are fired within miles of the town. In Sderot, children are no longer able to play outside safely. I believe that children should have a safe place to play, and it saddens me to know that this option is not available to everyone, since as a child, I cherish playing basketball with my friends outside.

Fortunately for the kids in Sderot, the Jewish National Fund built an indoor, bomb-proof playground, where kids can run wild and not worry about the dangers outside.

My event, Buckets for Duckets, will be held on April 26, 2023, at the MJCC in Portland, Oregon, at 4:30 pm. During the event, participants will have 90 seconds to score as many free throws as possible. A child participant can ask a parent, a grandparent, or a friend to donate a certain amount of money for each shot they score. For example, if a participant has 3 sponsors, and for each sponsor, they donate one dollar per shot, and they score ten shots, then they will donate 30 dollars. If the participant wants, they don't have to pay per shot, and they can just donate a certain amount of money. Although $18 is a recommended amount, no donation is too small or too big, because it all will go to a great cause - the JNF Indoor Playground in Sderot, Israel.

Please spread the word. I hope to see you there.

Samuel

P.S. Have fun shooting free throws and feel great about making a kid's day!
