Yerucham

Yerucham, one of six towns established in 1951 in the Northern Negev, is located less than half an hour from Be’er Sheva. The town is situated in a ridge between two natural resources, the large Yerucham Lake Park and the Machtesh Yerucham (Yerucham Crater). While the location is beautiful, Yerucham has never flourished. Nearby, the Ramat HaNegev Regional Council encompasses 14 farming communities, kibbutzim, and moshavim in an area designated largely as army firing zones and nature reserves. Operating in the spirit of David Ben Gurion’s vision to settle, develop, and preserve the Negev, both Yerucham and Ramat HaNegev face the challenge of encouraging residents to stay and raise their families there rather than move to Israel’s overcrowded center.
