We were devasted to see the direct hit on Arad by Iran on March 21. The attack caused widespread damage, placing hundreds of families in immediate danger. Residential buildings and public facilities were hit.
For the past 13 years, we have had a sister synagogue in Arad, and many of us have supported their efforts and the city's growth and development. The creation of a park, support of the music conservancy, and of course our sister synagogue Shira Hadasha have all been priorities for us. Our partnership with the JNF/USA also included an emergency mission after October 7, and the dedication of a new bomb shelter in that area. Now, it is time for us to step up once again with a $36,000 emergency campaign to address immediate and desperate needs in Arad.
Over 100 residents were injured, and hundreds of families were forced to evacuate their homes and relocate to temporary housing in the Dead Sea area.
This attack made a painful reality impossible to ignore. Many neighborhoods and public spaces in Arad still lack adequate bomb shelter protection. When missiles strike, residents often have only seconds to find safety.
The Urgent Need:
Arad is in critical need of additional bomb shelters and emergency support for displaced families. The city is working urgently to provide:
• Safe and accessible bomb shelters
• Temporary housing and placement assistance
• Food and basic necessities for evacuated residents
Each bomb shelter costs approximately $100,000 and provides immediate, lifesaving protection. These shelters are especially critical for children, elderly residents, and families who cannot reach safety in time.
