Hi Family and Friends,

As many of you know, I am planning to study in Israel next semester, my second semester of 10th grade, with TRY (Tichon Ramah Yerushalayim), a program for 10th and 11th graders to spend a semester learning, living, and traveling in Israel. Even with the war happening, Ramah, as of now, is moving forward with the program. Although it is a time of uncertainty, I know that my experience living in Israel for four months during this unique time in history will be both powerful and profound as I meet Israelis who have been impacted by the war and explore my own connection to the land and people of Israel.

Dream Israel is an organization that helps American high school students take the “Israel trip of their dreams” by fundraising for a specific Jewish National Fund (JNF)-USA project in Israel. If I meet my fundraising goal of $5000, JNF will provide me with a $7500 grant towards my own Israel travel experience. my.jnf.org/dreamisrael/JennaWasserman

The project I have chosen to raise money for is the Sderot Indoor Recreation Center. Sderot is located near the border of Israel and Gaza. Because families living on Israel's border with the Gaza Strip must always be within 15 seconds of a bomb shelter, the children of Sderot had nowhere to play due to the barrage of rockets. To solve this problem, JNF built an indoor recreation center which, up until October 7th, had brought a sense of normalcy to the children in the region. The center, outfitted with a rock-climbing wall, soccer field, computer labs, dance studio, and more, had been retrofitted with 300 tons of steel so the children could play safely in areas that doubled as bomb shelters.

Unfortunately, the recreation center incurred some damage when it was hit by rocket shrapnel on November 3rd. I cannot imagine what the children of Sderot have all gone through; your donation will help rebuild the center to continue to provide them with a safe space to play and just be kids.

You can learn more about the recreation center in this short video: youtu.be/WGJT8b1BEWo

I know that many of you are already giving money to different organizations to help Israel during this time of need. Your support would be greatly appreciated for both this important initiative to continue to improve the Sderot Indoor Recreation Center, as well as my efforts to meet my fundraising goal.

Thank you so much!
Love,
Jenna
