On May 10th, 2021 there were rockets fired from Gaza towards Sderot, Israel. This is hardly the first time that the residents of Sderot, a border town with the Gaza Strip, have become under attack by the forces of Hamas and the Gazan extremists. In the past few days with conflicts rising in Israel even more air missiles have been fired. Families of Sderot, young and old have been under fire for twenty ears. Never knowing when the next rocket attack will occur, they must always be within 15 seconds of a bomb shelter. There have been over a dozen deaths, scores of injuries and much damage to the infrastructure of the city. Living under the constant threat of bombing has eroded the sense of safety and normalcy in children of Sderot. The Jewish National Fund Indoor Recreation Center has brought a sense of normalcy to children in the region – outfitted with a rock- climbing wall, soccer field, computer labs, dance studio and more, it has been retrofitted with 300 tons of steel so children can be safe in play areas that double as bomb shelters! This summer I will be traveling to Israel with the Roots Israel program and will be volunteering at different sites. The cause of helping the children of Sderot is dear to my heart. Please consider a contribution to the Indoor Recreation Center Fund so that even more children of Sderot can take advantage of the safe, fun and healing space offered by the Indoor Recreation Center. I greatly appreciate your generous donation. Thank you, Eliana Hiam
