Green Horizons Israel Schools Operations

In today’s world that emphasizes individualism, Israeli society faces a growing identity and social cohesion crisis, particularly among youth. This generation is increasingly disconnected from community values, spending more time on screens and less time doing outdoor activities, which were at the heart of the Zionist educational process. This affects the youth’s personal resilience, preparation for the IDF and the connection to Israel.

Green Horizons (called Hugey Sayarut in Israel) addresses this by engaging students in grades 1–12 through outdoor activities, group learning, and leadership development. The program produces independent, value-driven graduates who will lead and influence their community, society, and the State of Israel.

In the traumatic aftermath of the October 7th, regional councils in the Israel Envelope, formerly known as the Gaza Envelope, recognized their elementary school (grades 1-6) children's desperate need for psychosocial healing and support. Green Horizons developed an outdoor experiential education program for local schools to foster resilience and confidence.

The program brings students to nature settings to develop leadership and teambuilding abilities. Through hands-on workshops, participants build crucial skills like self-confidence, problem-solving, resilience, and healthy interpersonal strengths. Furthermore, they develop a profound sense of community and social bonds with their peers.

After a meaningful JNF-USA mission to Israel with 37 members, Forest Hills Jewish Center (FHJC) aims to sponsor two elementary schools in the Eshkol region enabling 1,200 children to reclaim their sense of security and capability after the terrifying experience of Hamas attacks. This donation will be matched dollar for dollar by an Israeli based organization. Additionally, FHJC will stay in touch with Green Horizons and the two elementary schools throughout the year!

Those who contribute at least $500 per person to this project will be invited to a special parlor meeting and briefing hosted by JNF-USA in Forest Hills.
