Dear Family and Friends,
The past 13 months have been incredibly challenging for Jewish communities worldwide. From the tragic events of October 7th to the rising anti-Semitism on college campuses and beyond, there has been so much darkness.
As someone born just before Chanukah, I’ve always felt a strong connection to its message. My name, Lucy, means "light," and during Chanukah, we illuminate the world by lighting candles. This year, as part of my Bat Mitzvah celebration, I want to help spread light in a meaningful way by raising funds for Israel.
With the help of JNF, I am supporting two critical causes:
1. Rebuilding Shlomit: A community on the intersection of the Egyptian border and Gaza that was deeply impacted by the October 7th attacks. Shlomit, home to 500 young families, was evacuated but became the first in the region to return home this March. Heroic members of its security team sacrificed their lives to protect neighboring Pri Gan, saving countless lives. In their honor, we are helping build a synagogue to strengthen and unite the community.
2. Supporting Families of Fallen IDF Soldiers: Among them, Major (res.) Eliav Amram Abitbol, who gave his life during an IDF operation in Lebanon this month. A devoted husband and father of four, Eliav embodied generosity and heroism, even donating a kidney to a stranger before volunteering for reserve duty.
In lieu of gifts, I ask you to consider donating to this project. Together, we can bring light to these communities, remind them they are not alone, and demonstrate that Am Yisrael Chai—the Jewish people live.
Thank you for joining me in spreading light and hope this Chanukah.
With love,
Lucy
