Update July, 2026:
Nearly three years ago, many of you joined us in honoring the memory of our beloved Daniel through a project that was deeply meaningful to our family: helping provide a bomb shelter for the new synagogue in the community of Shlomit in Israel's Negev Desert.
The campaign was launched on September 6, 2023. At the time, our goal was straightforward: to create something lasting in Daniel's memory while helping support a young and growing community on Israel's border with Gaza. None of us could have imagined what would unfold just one month later.
On October 7, the residents of Shlomit woke up to the horrors of the Hamas attacks. Four members of the community's security team lost their lives while courageously defending neighboring communities and helping save countless others. What had begun as a project to strengthen and protect a growing community suddenly took on an even deeper meaning.
Today, we are honored to share that the synagogue has been completed and dedicated.
The new Be'er Shalom Synagogue now stands as both a vibrant center of Jewish life and a lasting tribute to the four heroes of Shlomit who gave their lives on October 7. Families gather there for prayer, celebration, learning, and community, carrying forward a spirit of resilience, hope, and determination.
As many of you know, the bomb shelter funded in Daniel's memory was created to help ensure that community members would have a safe place during times of danger. Sadly, events proved just how necessary that protection would be. Today, Daniel's legacy lives on through a project that helps safeguard the people of Shlomit while supporting the future of a community that has endured unimaginable loss and continues to grow stronger.
Below is a recent photo of the completed synagogue. We are also pleased to share several resources documenting the dedication and the remarkable story of this community:

• Ynet article about the dedication: ynetnews.com/jewish-world/article/bkwszwoyfl#google_vignette
We are deeply grateful to each of you for helping make this vision a reality. What began as a tribute to Daniel has become a lasting legacy of protection, faith, and community. Thank you for helping ensure that his memory continues to make a difference in the lives of others.
With heartfelt gratitude,
The Adelson Family
Welcome Message, August 2023:
Welcome to the Daniel Adelson A'H Memorial Donation Page,
In loving memory of Daniel Adelson A'H, we have initiated a fundraising campaign to support the pioneers of the Shlomit community of the Halutza region in the Negev desert of Israel.
In 2005, as part of the Israeli government's decision to unilaterally withdraw from the Gaza Strip, thousands of Jews were evacuated from their homes in what was known as the "Gaza Disengagement Plan". The families that were evicted from the Gaza Strip had a tough choice to make regarding their future. They could have easily chosen to relocate to established, comfortable cities in Israel, where they would have enjoyed the conveniences and amenities of urban life. However, many chose a different path.
The residents of the Halutza region are among those brave families. Instead of seeking the comforts of city life, they decided to build a community from the ground up in the challenging environment of the Negev desert, only 4.3 miles from the Gaza Strip. To put this in perspective, this distance is roughly the same as the distance between the World Trade Center and Times Square in New York City. These families embody resilience and the spirit of nation-building, even in the face of adversity.
Despite the challenges, the Halutza community has grown and now includes three communities: Bnei Netsarim, Nave, and the newest community, Shlomit. Their synagogue is a symbol of their dedication, a place of prayer, study, and community gathering. Yet, being so close to the Gaza Strip exposes it to the constant threat of rocket attacks. In these trying times, the synagogue is in dire need of a bomb shelter – a lifeline for the families who have chosen to make Shlomit their home.
We invite you to join us in raising $100,000 to build a bomb shelter for the Shlomit synagogue. By contributing to this cause, you are honoring the memory of Daniel Adelson A'H and ensuring his lasting impact. Your support will be a blessing and a merit for Daniel A'H, as you help safeguard the lives of the Shlomit community and fortify their commitment to the land.
In Daniel's memory, let us come together to make a world of difference for the people of Shlomit. Every donation, no matter the size, brings us closer to achieving this crucial goal.
Please join us on Wednesday September 6th at 7PM at Congregation Brothers of Israel, 250 Park Ave - Long Branch, NJ to honor Daniel’s memory and celebrate our successful campaign in his merit. We will have the opportunity to meet one of the pioneers from Halutza, Yedidya Harush, JNF-USA Haltuza liaison, IDF Commander, and volunteer firefighter. Yedidya is raising his family in the community of Shlomit and will share how your support is making a tremendous difference for his family and community. RSVP to Anna Millstein at amillstein@jnf.org or 973-593-0095 x 826
Thank you for your support.
With heartfelt gratitude,
