Please help me support Jewish National Fund by making a contribution to my fundraiser and sharing this page with your family and friends. Every dollar I raise will make Spectacular Sunday one of the greatest day in Jewish National Fund's fundraising history and will also be matched, so your contribution will go twice as far.

My name is Naftali Aklum

I was born in Ethiopia in 1979. The following year, my parents and I were among the first groups to make aliyah to Israel via Sudan, in what later became known as “Operation Moses.” I am the youngest of twelve brothers and sisters. The story of the exodus of Ethiopian Jews to Israel is one of the most moving events in Jewish history. Although it happened recently, most Israeli and Diaspora Jews are not aware of the difficulties faced by Ethiopian Jews during their trek to reach Israel. Upon arrival, they experienced many challenges and hardships.

My objective is to enable the Ethiopian community in the Negev and greater Israel to share its unique narrative and cultural treasures with others. I seek to empower the community and to contribute to a pluralistic Israeli society that views its communal diversity as a source of strength. The story of Ethiopian Jewry in Israel is a unique tale of suffering, perseverance, and fulfillment. As a member of the Ethiopian Israeli community in Beersheba, I have developed the Yerus Project, an exciting one-day educational experience for tourists that focuses on the history, culture, and traditions of Ethiopian Jewry. The program also aims to stimulate economic development among the Ethiopian community in the Negev.

I need your help to ensure that the Yerus Project will still be able to impart the Ethiopian Jews’ lovely story to the public and to facilitate visits to Beersheba once we emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic. Together, we can make a difference!

I aspire to continue this work and deeply appreciate your support. Any amount that you’re able to contribute will be received with heartfelt gratitude. I hope to see in Israel as soon as possible.

In the meantime, stay healthy and safe.

Thank you!
