Summer Programs for Displaced Children
Summer 2024
Summer 2024
The events of October 7th, 2023, still hang as a cloud over all of us. Our homeland was attacked and, while the war continues to wage on, there are still over 124 hostages in Gaza, 90,000 displaced people, with approximately 45,000 children between the ages of 6-17, and no end date in sight. Never since the Holocaust have Jews been displaced and are now refugees in their own homeland!
MAKOM Communities, a Jewish National Fund-USA affiliate organization in Israel, has been on the ground before October 7th, creating community life all across Israel, by volunteering throughout 280 communities in areas of education, social services, and arts & culture.
Since October 7th, MAKOM Communities have been even busier, providing solutions and relief for hundreds of thousands of displaced people from the North and South.
Summer programs will begin in mid-June and run through the end of August, for children ages 6-17, specifically in areas where the displaced children are temporarily residing. Since these children have nothing stable in their lives at the moment, having ongoing programs throughout the summer will not only give them something to look forward to, but will also help them feel more connected with other children in the area. The summer programs operate differently according to different age groups, accomodating the needs and structure accordingly.
There are two 6-week sessions, where the cost for one session for each participant is $1,800. It covers transportation for trips, food, supplies for activities, and entrance fees.
To sponsor a child in a 6-week summer program is $1,800.
Donations of all levels are accepted, and will be used towards sponsoring displaced children in summer programs.
Your support is critical!
